Computer Science and Math

SAT 1448· English: 650

I’m a rising senior at Columbia University studying Computer Science and Mathematics, with 2+ years of experience tutoring elementary and middle school students in math and one year of SAT Math tutoring experience with high school students. What I love most about tutoring is seeing a student go from saying, “I’m just bad at math,” to realizing that they actually can do it. I truly believe that many students don’t struggle because they aren’t capable, they simply need someone to explain the material in a way that makes sense to them. My goal is to be that person. I’m also the oldest of three siblings, so teaching, helping with homework, and patiently explaining things to younger students has been part of my life long before I began tutoring professionally. Because of that, I’m very comfortable working with younger students and understand how important patience, encouragement, and confidence are in the learning process. My teaching style focuses on understanding not memorization. I break difficult concepts into manageable steps, adjust to each student’s learning style, and create a low-pressure environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes.
